The 1st Westerlands Regiment, referred simply as either the 1st or "Westerlands" but also known by its ancestral sobriquet as the Old Guard, is the oldest and most prestigious regiment in the UTC by lineage. Formed in November 2016 by amalgamating the 222nd and the 95th Regiments, the Westerlands Regiment contains the history and honours of its dual ancestors and thus maintains their traditions, duties and peculiarities.

The Westerlands Regiment, because of its lineage can still claim to be the oldest regiment in the UTC and is therefore heir to many battle honours and traditions prior to the regiment's actual inception.

The regiment is subdivided into two battalions, with members of the 1st Battalion being reserved for Company Members and the members of the 2nd Battalion reserved for Regimentals.

History[]

The Westerlands Regiment is the result of the amalgamation of both the 222nd South Aspermont Regiment and the 95th East Yawpton Regiment. Both regiments considered each other as sister regiments with a common heritage that goes as far back as 2012. The two regiments fought side by side in many campaigns and battles, but as the role of the 95th began to decline, so too did its officership, with leaders changing hands many times. By late 2016, the regiment simply became subordinate to the 222nd.

The idea of simplifying ordinal numbers for regiments started as early as September 2016.[1] In the original plan, the 222nd and the 95th were to be simply renumbered as the 1st and the 2nd, respectively. The decision to amalgamate both came out of economic and administrative practicality. Irishkaiser, being of experience, was chosen as the Regiment's captain, alongside with Vergath as the Regiment's First Lieutenant. The regiment was immediately deployed in the Alt War and was key in many missions and operations. Members of the 1st took part in Operation Roosevelt and Operation Hiroshima during the conflict, which successfully turning the tide to the UTC's favor with the recapture of two pumpkins and seven gold armor sets.

The regiment during the war went on to finish and publish the UNKNOWN [?] Trading Company's Field Manual 2016 which serves as the instruction manual for how the entire UTC operates.

At the opening of 2017, members of the Westerlands Regiment were present and acquitted themselves during Grimdale 2017. The regiment at this time became full-strength and maintained itself as a key operational and logistical pillar in the Company. The Regiment also maintains a monopoly on the clan's infrastructure and services with their members dominating the drill server staff, the communication support, the trade run productions and alts and even the Company's finances.

On the 30th of April, the Regiment dropped the pre-requisites of Company Members only for the 1st Battalion and Regimentals only for the 2nd Battalion, instead using personality as the basis for battalion assignment. The Regiment's members formed a significant part of Task Force Chester and were present at the Battle of the Midlands, earning a battle honour.

The regiment today operates across all of the UTC's territories, detaching men, material and missions to each other and other Company Members.

Role[]

As the successors of both the South Aspermont and the East Yawpton regiments, the Westerlands Regiment takes on the role as both the headquarters regiment of the UNKNOWN [?] Trading Company and its main factory. It took on important roles ranging from administration, logistics, training, production and support to the entire UTC.

The regiment is trained to be capable in both heavy and light infantry duties, but the Light Infantry are generally sent to the 2nd Battalion.

Traditions[]

As a successor regiment, the Westerlands Regiment retain the traditions and practices of its parents, such as the UD-12 Field Dress Regiment members and superiors freely criticize among each other as the regiment believes its survival and flexibility depend on relying on facts and accurate intelligence to make important decisions. The regimental motto is: Valeur et Discipline. Their slow march is Der Hohenfriedberger and their Quick March is Men of Harlech. The Regiment's Thorned Crowns are Dark Blue(Lapis Lazuli + Ink Sac)

Battle Honours[]

Due to its lineage, the 1st Westerlands has more than 15 Battle Honours, but many of them have been amalgamated into the Southern War 2013 Battle Honour for simplification. Some, however, stood out and were not amalgamated.
